ATTRACTIONS: Peaceful secluded wilderness canyon with unique rock formations.
LEVEL: Moderate.
HIKING TIME: Approximately three hours roundtrip.
DRIVING TIME FROM THE INTERSECTION OF 89A AND SR 179: About twenty minutes.
DRIVING CONDITIONS: Five miles of dirt road. In good weather many passenger cars utilize this road however low clearance vehicles are not appropriate.
DESCRIPTION: This route utilizes two Forest Services trails. It
first meanders through a canyon that resembles the rain forests of the American Northwest.
Then it follows a seasonal stream and rises gradually toward the end of this canyon. When there is water flowing you can see bizarre designs and sculptures which have been cut through the sandstone by the forces of
nature. It is one of the few areas around Sedona where you can feel as if you are the only person on planet earth. For some odd reason I seldom encounter other hikers in this canyon-- their loss. This is a perfect summer hike since it is sheltered by a canopy of
Arizona's most beautiful trees.
